Angelina Jolie’s divorce from Brad Pitt was sparked after he allegedly verbally and physically abused their children, it was reported on Thursday.

Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday told The Telegraph that they were not investigating Pitt.

But according to US gossip site TMZ, Pitt was reported following an alleged drunken incident on a flight last Wednesday when the star is accused of going “wild,” screaming and “getting physical.”

The Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services are investigating, TMZ claimed.

LAPD denied that.

LA child protection services were unavailable for comment, when contacted by The Telegraph.

Pitt and Jolie were said by the gossip site to have been interviewed by child protection services.

How much are Brad and Angelina worth?

A source close to Pitt told TMZ: “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children.

“It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

Jolie filed for divorce on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple were together for 12 years, marrying in 2014, and have six children.

Pitt, 52, was said to be devastated by Jolie’s decision to seek a divorce and is said to be furious at suggestions that she was concerned by his alleged alcohol consumption, marijuana smoking and “anger issues”.

Brad’s career in 1.5 minutes:

Jolie is said to have been angered by his relationship with Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard – his co-star in the film Allied, out in November.

Cotillard has a five-year-old son, Marcel, with her partner, French actor Guillaume Canet.

Jolie was said to be so concerned about her husband’s chemistry with Cotillard that she hired a private eye to watch them on set, during filming in London and the Canary Islands this spring.

On Wednesday night Cotillard spoke out for the first time about the swirling speculation.

“I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.

“Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.

“Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. ”

On Wednesday night it was reported that Pitt had offered to have therapy to help salvage his marriage, with friends saying that the actor still “totally adored” Jolie and would never put her or their children “under threat”.

The Telegraph has been unable to contact a spokesman for Pitt. The LAPD were unavailable for comment.
